Colquitt/Miller Arts Council Raises Money While Helping the Environment

It's time to clean out your junk drawers and finally change that ink cartridge you've been trying to get every last drop out of!  Colquitt/Miller Arts Council is starting a new fundraising project this month to help fund some of their upcoming projects.  The children at the New Life Learning Center have created collection boxes that are placed around town and citizens are asked to fill the boxes with old cell phones and used ink cartridges.  The Arts Council will then turn them in to Phoneraiser, a company that specializes in recycling and refurbishing used technology, and will receive money for each item collected.

Why throw away your old cell phone when you can get rid of it in an environmentally friendly way, all the while helping to support your community?  One cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water.  They also contain toxic substances that can pollute the air when they are burned and leek into soil and drinking water when buried in landfills.  Instead, they can be refurbished or disposed of in a way that won't harm the environment.

Collection boxes will be set up at the following locations: Cotton Hall, New Life Learning Center, Tarrer Inn, A & E Building, Market on the Square, and Sugar Hill Trading Co. and BBQ.
